"Sushi Samba" is my new favorite
The best new restaurant in Las Vegas is Sushi Samba, located at the Palazzo-on the second level. Dramatic 16-foot ceilings, swirling sculptural "ribbons" and a brilliant Mondrian-inspired glass facade evoke the spirit and energy of Carnaval, while signature dishes and cocktails capture the vibrancy and flavors of Brazil, Japan and Peru. I sat at the bar and was served by the bartender Danielle-I ordered a fresh Watermelon & Belvadere Martini, though it isnt on the menu that was no problem for Danielle-she is terrific and the menu is a clever mix of Sushi, Seafood and Seviche with a Latin twist. I had the Miso-Marinated Chilean Sea Bass with roasted seasonal vegetables, it was perfectly cooked and perfectly delicious. Also the Samba Strip Roll features Maine lobster, avacado, chive, rice cracker and spicy sesame creme- served with a chilled Lobster claw on the side is one of the best Lobster Rolls in town. Feeling brave? Try the Sawagani- which is a plate of miniature flash-fried japanese river crabs (shown above)a plate of 5 little crabs, claws, shell, eyes and all. I wasnt that adventurous, but was told they were very tasty. For dessert try the warm chocolate banana cake or arroz con leite with doce de leite ice cream, mango and sake gelée. Just go to www.sushisamba.com and check out the menu, music and event calendar.
